Doctor Who

Although the new season of Doctor Who which airs from Easter 2011 is the 32nd, it marks only the sixth season since the series was rebooted following a 15 year break from our TV screens. And, as such there is a whole load of people out there who had probably never heard of Doctor Who before let alone watched it. Personally I grew up with The Doctor being played by John Pertwee and then of course Tom Baker. I kind of lost interest after that. The current audience for Doctor Who have grown up knowing Star Wars, Stargate, Star Trek and other effects laden movies and TV series. Therefore, in order to satisfy this new audience, the new Doctor Who does incorporate some great special effects, the like of which have never been seen in a Doctor Who series before. However, with Russell T. Davies at the helm, there is some great story telling here too.

Since the reboot, we are now on our 3rd Doctor, or our 11th Doctor in the grand scheme of things. The current Doctor, played by Matt Smith replaced David Tennant at the end of season 3. David had played the Doctor for three seasons after taking over from Christopher Eccleston.

There have been a couple or three new companions too. It all started with Rose, played by Billie Piper and to be honest I still think she was the best although the current companion, Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan is growing on me. Between the two we had Freema Agyeman who played Martha Jones. Freema has since gone on to star in more serious television being an assistant to the chief prosecutor in Law & Order: UK.

Even The TARDIS has had a bit of an overhaul - whatever next!
